Florida gets hot in the summer. Stupid hot. Here's a hat I created to let the breeze in and still keep my dreadies out of my way and out of the elements.
As you can see, I made 2 of these hats (so far). One is what I call a super beanie, for folks with really long dreads. Although I think it looks cute on my shorter locks, kind of a snood. The second is a smaller beanie. The following directions are for the super beanie with changes for the smaller beanie in parentheses. If you are confused please message me.
Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver Black (2 skeins used as one), Craftsmart Value Bright Red (1 skein), Red Heart Super Saver Bright Yellow (1 skein) and Red Heart Super Saver Spring Green (1 skein).
Loom: 40 pegs
Stitches used: E-wrap knit, purl, yarn over (YO), Knit together (Ktog)
Brim:
Black (using 2 skeins of yarn as one)
Row 1-10 (or 6 or 8): Knit one, purl one, repeat for all pegs
Hat Body:
Change colors to red (using only one skein of yarn)
Row 1: E-wrap and knit off all pegs
Row 2: Move loop from peg 1 to peg 2 (YO) and knit together (Ktog) , peg 3 to peg 4 and so on for all pegs
Row 3: E-wrap all pegs and knit off pegs with 2 loops
Repeat rows 1-3 6 times (or 5 (for this hat, I knit this set 6 (5) times for a total of 18 (15) rows.
Change color to yellow (using only one skein of yarn)

Change color to green (using only one skein of yarn)

Row 56: E-wrap and knit off all pegs
To finish:
Decrease by moving the loop on peg 1 to peg 2, the loop on peg 3 to peg 4 and so on all the way around the loom. I finished with a simple gather.
