Jaco Pastorious was an amazing, revolutionary bass player. My friend Joe Botto is likewise an amazing bass player. He asked me to make him a hat like the one Jaco wore. So I did! I knit it on a loom using big ole fat yarn so it looks different but I'm really happy with the results. I think it's a more modern version.
Yarn: I used scraps from other projects, I think it was Hometown Syracuse, Hometown Tampa Spice, Bernat Black, Bernat Rice Paper, Hometown Ft Worth, Hometown Pittsburgh, Hometown Cincinnati, Hometown Green Bay and Hometown Oaklahoma City.
Loom: 36 Pegs
Stitches Used: E-wrap knit, purl
Brim: Hometown Syracuse (orange)
Row 1: E-wrap all pegs, E-wrap knit all pegs
Row 2: Purl all pegs
Rows 3-12: Repeat rows 1 and 2 (5) times
*After completing the first 12 rows, bring up the first row onto the pegs and knit off. If you are unsure how to do this, here's a pretty good video to explain it.
Row 13: E-wrap knit all pegs
Hat Body: All the rows are E-wrap knit, so I'm just going to list the colors. Here's a video explaining how to change colors on a round loom
Rows 14-16: Hometown Tampa Spice (dark red)
Rows 17-19: Bernat Black (black)
Rows 20-22: Hometown Ft Worth (dark blue)
Rows 23-25: Hometown Pittsburgh (yellow)
Rows 26-28: Hometown Cincinnati (bright red)
Rows 29-34: Hometown Oaklahoma City (light green)
Rows 35-38: Hometown Green Bay (dark green)
To finish:
Decrease by moving the loop on peg 1 to peg 2, the loop on peg 3 to peg 4 and so on all the way around the loom. I finished with a simple gather. Measure out 2 lengths of Bernat Rice Paper (white) and thread on a yarn needle. From the back top stitch every other column on Row 18 (middle of the black section). Stretch the hat out to capacity before finishing off white and trimming ends.

Don't forget: I take commissions! If you want a hat like this one or any of the other hats you've seen on my little blog, please message me and we can discuss. I also have a few for sale on my Zibbit shop!
